New Banners On Nanaimo City Streets

NEW CITY BANNERS INSTALLED

City crews were out this past week installing new banners along Nanaimo’s major streets and waterfront walkway. The new banner design is the creative work of local artist Cody Klingbiel. The image depicts two of Nanaimo’s popular outdoor activities; walking the many parks and trails available here and enjoying time on the water. The images are divided by a stylized tree that reflects our wonderful landscape, along with the phrase “A Place for You”. The colour layers capture water, diverse ground, and sky.

This is the third year of the banner contest. The goal of the contest is to raise local participation in Nanaimo’s public art program, beautify the city, and create local identity. Klingbiel’s banners will be hung for the next two spring and summer seasons.

The City of Nanaimo issued the call for design concepts late in 2012 and received twenty submissions from across BC.

The next banner design contest will be held in the winter of 2013. Watch for notices in local papers, on the City website, and the City Twitter and Facebook pages. For more information about the public art and the banner program, please contact Kirsty MacDonald 250 755 7506.
