Baby Flicker Learning The Ropes

Mom Flicker Feeding This Years Brood

This is the second year we have had the pleasure of witnessing a new family of Flickers in our yard. There has been a total of two new ones and the pair of adults the past few days.

The baby Flickers are not all that bright it seems. Mom will fill her crop with seeds and put them into Juniors mouth. The young  Flicker can be seen pecking through the seeds, as if they were litter, trying to find the food Mom had just fed him.

If this bunch is like last year, sooner or later Mom just leaves Junior alone in the feeder, and sooner or later he seems to figure it out.
