City Not Replacing Asst. City Manager

City Downsizes Senior Management

Faced with significant budget challenges, the City of Nanaimo announces that it is taking a major step to reduce administration costs. With the financial plan projecting tax increases in future years substantially in excess of the inflation rate, the City believes that its administration must be as lean as possible to best protect the direct services it provides to Nanaimo citizens.

The current General Manager of Corporate Services/Assistant City Manager, Mr. Douglas Holmes, will be leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities. His duties will be assumed by other senior managers. Further announcements on this matter will be coming in the near future.

With this departure, it is intended that the City will have one less senior manager. There will be a reallocation of duties among existing Directors and General Managers with the end result being one less person in the Director/General Manager group. The long-term annual savings as a result of this downsizing will be approximately $170,000.

Al Kenning, City Manager, wishes to acknowledge and thank Mr. Holmes for his services to the City of Nanaimo.
