Police Respond To Sawed Off Shotgun

Tenant Eviction Does Not Go Smoothly

The presence of a sawed off shotgun and an irate tenant lead to a massive police response and the quick arrest of an adult female.

Police were alerted to the find by property managers of an apartment building located at 2640 Glen Eagle Crescent conducting an eviction inspection. The manager entered the unit after the tenant refused to leave following an evicition notice being served on her the week prior. Once inside the manager was confronted by the agitated female and seen lying on the floor near her, was a sawed off shotgun. The manager correctly backed out of the apartment and called 911.

Approximately seven officers responded and quickly established a perimeter and set up containment around the building. As they were attempting to initiate contact with her, the female age 35, walked out the main door of the complex and was taken into custody without incident.
Officers then entered the apt and found the single action 12 gauge shotgun. It was found not to be loaded and no shells were located in the apartment. Also found in the apartment was a loaded flare gun and painted black from it original orange color. The female ,age 35,was arrested for unsafe storage of a firearm and was transported to the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment. She is expected to be released on a Promise to Appear later in the day.

"While the flare gun does not meet the standards to be considered a firearm , if this weapon was produced on the street in the condition it was found, it could easily be considered one. "said Constable Gary O'Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
