Popular Fundraiser A Huge Success
Once again the annual Silly Boat Regatta proved to be a most popular family fun day at Maffeo Sutton Park downtown at the harbour.
The Nanaimo Child Development Centre's 26th fundraiser literally filled the park with people of all ages from buggies to motorized scooters!
The top photo shows the crowd which packed the beach, the bridge and the fishing wharf to watch the annual silliness which did not disappoint. Crazy craft of all imaginable designs were entered in the mercifully short race around the buoy in the harbour.
The middle photo shows the first heat of the day with contestants battling for position as they approached the buoy. The bottom photo shows the winners of the first heat who successfully navigated the course and were first to ring the bell! The team from Canadian Western Bank had a seaworthy craft and crew who knew how to pull together which assured them the win of the first heat.
