Repairs To The Bastion

Looking almost as if it is floating on air, the roof of the Bastion seems to be about the only part of this building still in place.

It appears that all the timbers that formed the walls have been removed and all that remains at this point is the skeleton of the building.

The Bastion was built by the Hudson Bay Company in 1853, fortified with cannons it served as the 'protector' of the small community which was to become Nanaimo, the Harbour City.

Rot had been found in some of the main support members of the Bastion which had caused it to lean somewhat. After the repairs have been completed it should be good for another 150 years or so.
