Departure Bay & B.C. Ferry
Viewed From Sugarloaf Mountain
If you have never been up to Sugarloaf Mountain you are missing one of the most spectacular views of Nanaimo, short of a helicopter ride.
After parking you will have to climb a considerable number of stairs but providing you are reasonably fit they should present no problem.
It is a park, but aside from the spectacular views there is really no other reason to go as there are no shade trees nor green grass to relax on. There is lots of barren rock, very dry grass and a couple of park benches to sit on. It would not be a first choice for a picnic, but did I mention the view?
Be sure to take your camera, some binoculars and at least something to drink. And be most careful about anything which could spark a fire, as the grass is tinder dry and only last week there was a bad fire in this area.
Where are the stairs? How do I get to them?
