Don't Leave Pets In Hot Vehicles

A reminder not to leave animals unattended in hot vehicles

As the weather has warmed up, the City would like to remind pet owners not to leave animals unattended in a vehicle. The Animal Control and Licensing Bylaw restricts anyone from leaving a dog confined in a vehicle where there is no adequate ventilation or where the internal vehicle temperature exceeds 23 degrees Celsius.

Last year, the City updated the Animal Control and Licencing Bylaw to include a new section prohibiting a person from keeping a dog confined in a vehicle where there is no adequate ventilation or where the internal vehicle temperature exceeds 23 degrees Celsius.

The fine for leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle without proper ventilation is up to $500.
