'Home Brewers' Added To Chamber's Feastival

BREWED RIGHT HERE’ EVENT
PART OF CHAMBER’S FEASTIVAL FOOD SHOW

Local home brewers will have a chance to collaborate with Nanaimo’s craft breweries in the first annual “Brewed Right Here” competition.

On June 17th, home brewers in Nanaimo, BC will have the chance to have their best brews sampled by the public and a panel of judges at Nanaimo’s first public home brewing competition. The competition, open to brewers from across Vancouver Island, is set to run alongside the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce’s annual food and beverage event called Feastival as part of the SIPS event.

SIPS features the sipping sampling of “local” craft brews, ciders, wines, and spirits. The Friday night SIPS event is admissible by advance ticket purchase only. Tickets are $39 and include 5 samples and a souvenir glass. Additional sampling tickets will be available.

The “Brewed Right Here” competition is the result of new rules and regulations from the Provincial government around liquor licensing and events in BC, which allow home brewers to serve samples at special events.

Contestants in Brewed Right Here will have the chance to win Fan Favourite, Brewer’s Best, and Popular Vote. The contest will use a voting system to decide on the semi-finalists, who will have their entries judged by a panel of industry professionals at the main Feastival event on Saturday, June 18th. The contest winners will have the opportunity to work with a local craft brewery to produce a brew on a large scale, in collaboration with the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.

Admission for brewers wishing to enter is $100. Full details on the entry requirements for the contest are available on the Feastival website, at www.feastival.ca.
