Baseball Bat Assault Leads To Arrest

A 52 year old male was taken to hospital Tuesday evening after being struck with a baseball bat during an altercation at a home on Barclay Rd in Nanaimo. The incident occurred shortly before 9 pm on Tuesday July 26th.

A 58 year old male was arrested at the scene for Assault Causing Bodily Harm and held in custody for the night. The suspect male was released Wednesday morning on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Nanaimo Provincial court on October 18th.

Police were called to the residence for a report of a disturbance. When officers arrived they found the victim bleeding from an apparent head injury. The victim was transported to local hospital by attending BC Paramedics. The injuries the victim sustained were not as serious as first thought and he was released from hospital early Wednesday morning after receiving several stiches to his head.

Investigators were granted judicial authorization to enter the home on Wednesday morning and seized various items for forensic evaluation, including the baseball believed to have been used in the assault.
