After years and years of not knowing how to deal with food trucks in Nanaimo a policy was finally adopted and passed by this city council. To say the program has been an underwhelming success would be an understatement. We are now well into the summer season and only three vendors have taken out a licence to operate a food trailer in Nanaimo. No one has taken out a food truck licence to date.
The area these vendors can operate from is well off the beaten path being in the area near the basketball courts rather than on the square where the hot dog vendor has operated for the past number of years. Why?
I have never had any doubts about the lack of business sense at city hall, and this food cart location simply reinforces that opinion.
