Bike Registration Clinic - Nanaimo July 13/16

Project 529 -
Reduce Bike thefts in our community
The Nanaimo RCMP is taking steps to help reduce the incidents of bike theft in our community by encouraging bike owners to register their bicycles for free using the 529 Garage app.
Approximately 250-300 bikes are stolen in Nanaimo every year. Less than 5% of the bikes recovered by the Nanaimo RCMP are ever returned to owners. In the upcoming months, the Nanaimo RCMP will be partnering with the local cycling community, which includes retail bike shops and cycling clubs, with the goal to register 1,000 bikes by the end of 2017. The first clinic is set for this Wednesday July 13th, 6 pm to 8 pm, at Arrowsmith Bikes, located at 4906 Wellington Road.
“We are committed to reducing the incidents of bike theft in our community. One of our crime prevention strategies is to engage the community by having them register their own bikes, thus, helping us to address the issue of bike theft” says Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.  For information on upcoming free registration clinics, follow us on twitter @NanaimoRCMP, Facebook or call the Nanaimo RCMP Community Policing Section at 250-755-3163.
