Familiar Nanaimo Landmark Comes Down

Husky Gas Station and Restaurant Make Way

The familiar gas station and restaurant at the corner of Terminal Ave. and Vancouver Ave. is being torn down to make way for a new convenience store and gas station.

When I first moved here in 1970 this was the home of the popular Smitty's Pancake House, a western institution which was a novelty to this eastern boy.

You see progress(?) everywhere you look it seems. I use the (?) because this site used to provide the income for many families who are now, no longer working there. The same could be said for the Port Place Mall and Terminal Park Mall.
