A Nanaimo police officer will be off work for a few days nursing a sore jaw after being assaulted during a domestic disturbance early Saturday morning.

At approximately 3:30 AM on Saturday June 25th, officers attended to a home on Athena Place, to deal with an unruly 18 year old male who had assaulted his father. When officers arrived, the male approached and without provocation struck one of them in the face with a closed fist .The two officers were able to subdue the intoxicated male and placed him under arrest. During the arrest a small bag of marihuana was located in his pants pocket.

Stephen Kieran ROBB, 18, was formally charged with two counts of assault, Obstructing a Police Officer and Possession of a Controlled Substance(marihuana). He was lodged in cells over the weekend and is expected to appear before a Provincial court judge today.

" The officer attended to local hospital where he was treated and later released. He will be seeing a specialist in the near future to further assess his jaw,” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
