What Is Going On With Rail On Vancouver Island?

 Island Rail Fudning
This article in the Times Colonist reports that the Regional District of Nanaimo has withdrawn funding to the Island Corridor Foundation to the tune of $945,000.00 As of this writing the ICF has not issued any statement as to how this impacts their plans for restoring rail service on Vancouver Island. Over the past years, there have been many 'events' announcing that the Dayliner would soon begin to run again on the Island, but to date nothing has materialized.

Meanwhile Island Rail Celebrates

 Rail Event

The News Bulletin reports that Island Rail will be celebrating the anniversary of rail on Vancouver Island by running one hour rail trips from the train station on Selby St. to Wellington on April 8.

  2. here is a comment in the local paper regarding our expanding airport. A fellow called out the obvious. I agree with him, Let's work on 'real' transportation issues first. I have never seen an airport with no public transit link, in my life!

'Cassidy Airport will not be a serious competitor for YVR until there is public transportation to YCD. It's a disgrace that there is no public bus from Nanaimo to Ladysmith calling at the airport. And that's only because the politicians running the Cowichan Valley Regional District (which includes Ladysmith) and the Regional Distruct of Nanaimo can't work together. For shame.'

  3. Will Chrisi Clark and her band of head-bobblers, looking for cash from taxpayer's pockets, be there again?

  4. There was indeed a crowd of paid (looking forward to gov't handouts down the road) biz types and politicos at the train station a few years back when Premier Clark rolled in on the front of a train announcing Dayliner service would soon return.

Hmmmm....Why didn't that huge crowd chip in some bucks of their own and the train would be chugging along now - instead of just standing around clapping and nodding?
