Dominating The Waterfront
A gigantic offshore rig is presently moored off Protection and Newcastle Island where it will likely remain for a few weeks.
According to the Nanaimo Port Authority it is an American oil exploration platform on it's way to Alaska having sailed from Texas by going around South America.
It is possible that the vessel may require some maintenance work completed before continuing on it's voyage.
If you get a chance to see it, it is quite an imposing vessel, and can be viewed from Maffeo Sutton Park.
